| New
Year's Elixir
After reaching adulthood, life can easily turn into a never-ending
stream of tasks, deadlines, and budgets. Work, family, friends,
home, and financial affairs are some of the priorities that
can raise busyness and preoccupation to a spiritually hazardous
level.
The New Year holiday provides an excellent opportunity to
regain your perspective and sense of humor.
On New Year’s Eve or New Year’s
Day, curl up with the appropriate elixir (champagne, juice,
mineral water,
etc.) and reflect on the year just ended, with or without
someone else.
Starting with January, think back to what you can remember
from that month. Continue reminiscing about each month of
the year that just passed.
No matter how much or how little you remember, you will
likely find this to be true: the vast majority of the experiences
you had in the past year you cannot even remember within
just a few months.
As
you begin the New Year, whenever problems, worries, or hassles
come up, ask yourself if this is something you would even
remember by next New Year’s. If not, don’t invest
too much emotional energy in it—there will be little
or no return on your investment!
