Juvenile
Genius
Young children are a handful, especially those under the
age of five. Often, parents and family members are so busy
trying to keep up with them that they overlook an important
truth: children are spiritually wise, and make the best spiritual
advisors in the world.
If you have the opportunity to spend time with a young child,
try this exercise. Take the child to a natural environment
of some type: the back yard or a park, lake, or beach. Watch
the child carefully. Follow his or her gaze, and try to see
as the child sees.
Listen to what the child asks, try to answer, and inquire
why she or he asked the question in the first place. Consider
the inner perspective needed to ask such a question and maintain
inexhaustible curiosity.
If
you spend time with a baby, ask yourself: What makes a baby
smile? Why does a baby smile when looking into your eyes?
What does a baby understand that we do not?
